The three young men who gathered the today’s BELFAST FOOD (Sebastijan Mavric-fiddle, mandolin; Hrvoje Hodak – vocal, acoustic guitar, tin whistles and uilleann pipes; and Marko Anic – accordion, flute, acoustic guitar, vocal) started their work in 1992 (at the time they were called IMA TU NESHTO).
Mostly influenced by “THE CHIEFTAINS” and “THE DUBLINERS”, they also played the instrumental music of legendary folk groups The Bothy Band, Planxty, and De Dannan. This music is traditional dance music dating from the eighteenth century and is played fast and furious. In time they expanded the band (Erik Malnar – electric guitar, banjo, vocals; Alen Sirola – bass, mandolin; Bobo Grujicic – drums) and their horizons adding strong rock elements to the Irish sound.
The Irish roots thus changed they recorded on their live CD, which in a very short period proved to be a success. The CD was recorded on Easter eve, 30th March, 1997 in Rijeka. All in all, the special Irish atmosphere with the characteristic sounds is filled with the energy of rock and roll. Still the recognisable Irish sound is retained…
In 1999. bend published second album called “ZastoZato” (WhyBecause), in which BF maintained the irish sound with new elements of authoring. Also, BF widden it’s sound to other musical styles. Both of the albums released a publisher named “Kondorcomm”
2003. is a year of some major changes – first, band changes publisher, from “Kondrocomm” to “Dallas Records”. Second – the band leaves Hrvoje Hodak, one of the singers and players. In this year, band released new album called “Melodije Irske i Kvarnera” ( Melodies of Ireland and Kvarner). This album promoted the band as mostly authoring band with tendencies to become full-author band.
In 2005. Belfast Food changes drummer and instead of Bobo Grujicic now is Marko Juric on the drums, the young and talented drummer from Croatian isle of Rab.
In the year 2006. the band releases 4th album “Zeleni album” ( Green album ). Still under irish and celtic influence, but only in traces of music arrangements and instrument choices. The music style on this album widened on number of genres, but keeping recognizable band’s sound. The “Green album” is almost full author work of the band members and introduces new direction in band’s career.
2008, the band released live CD and DVD album recorded on St. Patrick’s celebration day, march the 17th 2007. called “Live in Tvornica”
